HistoryThe Okefenokee Wildlife League (OWL), Inc. (was formed in 1989) in cooperation with the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in all aspects of its mission. In 1990, Okefenokee Wildlife League received its 501(c)3 status as a nonprofit organization. In 2018, the association registered to “do business as’ Friends of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. PurposeThe purposes for which this Corporation is organized are to promote better understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the natural history and natural environment of southeast Georgia, and, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The Corporation will cooperate with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, hereafter referred to as the “Service” to:

The Okefenokee National Wildlife RefugeThe Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1937 as a "refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife". The Okefenokee is like no other place on earth, where natural beauty and wilderness prevail.
