Youth & Families Fishing Derby 2026

The 2026 Friends of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge Fishing Derby was a memorable morning filled with fishing, family fun, and community spirit. Anglers of all ages gathered for a day that celebrated the outdoors while supporting conservation and connection with the refuge.

The event welcomed 80 registered participants, and the action on the water kept excitement high throughout the morning. By the end of the derby, anglers had caught an impressive 218 catfish, 69 bream, and 3 bass, creating plenty of memorable moments around the pond.

Celebrating the Day’s Highlights

A highlight of the derby was the awards presentation, where participants were recognized for their skill, effort, and enthusiasm. Awards for Most Fish Caught were presented in the 3–6, 7–11, and 12–15 age divisions, honoring some of our youngest anglers for their outstanding catches.

The Longest Fish Overall award recognized the top catch among participants ages 3–15, while a separate Longest Fish (16+) category celebrated the biggest catch among adult anglers.

Adding to the fun, two lucky participants reeled in specially tagged fish, bringing an extra surprise element to an already exciting event.

Events like this are only possible because of the incredible support from volunteers, families, sponsors, donors, and community partners. Their time, generosity, and encouragement help create meaningful experiences for local families while supporting the mission of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.
